Batteries are the lifeline of almost all automobiles and need wholesome care to continue serving you for long. With the increasing number of electrical and electric components being added to the new vehicles, batteries bear a lot of the load when it comes to delivering powerful performance on the roads. To ensure your car keeps functioning as and when you require, regular maintenance is of utmost importance and that includes caring for your car battery as well.

While replacement batteries are readily available in the market, a little care on your own can go a long way in increasing the durability of your car battery. To make it easier for you, here we have noted down a few simple tips on how to improve car battery life:

#Tip 1 - Always ensure you get a right battery for your car

This means that the battery not only has to physically fit inside the car, but also should be able to meet the power requirements for your vehicle electricals.

#Tip 2 - Clean the battery terminals at intervals

With time, dust and corrosion accumulate on the battery terminals thereby affecting its performance and durability. Cleaning the terminals with a dry cloth at regular intervals is recommended to ensure smooth power flow through uncluttered terminal and a longer battery life.

#Tip 3 - Be careful about the self-discharge

Car batteries drains out over time. However, leaving your car unattended for too long is never a good idea, as battery self-discharge might drain the entire power and your car might not start when you try to take it out. Even if you intend to keep your car unused for a long period, try to start the car after every 5-7 days for at least 5 minutes to keep your car battery in working condition.

#Tip 4 - Try not to use electronics when idling

Prolonged periods of idling in a car with the music system, lights and air conditioner on, is not really favourable for your car battery. Try to reduce battery dependency as much as possible, especially when your engine isn't turned on. Also, every time you step out of your car, remember to turn off the headlights and other electronic gadgets.
